Welcome to the website of Joanne Conman!

“For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived and dishonest – but the myth – persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the clichés of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Independent scholar Joanne Conman has spent over twenty years investigating ancient astrology, concentrating on ancient Egypt for the last fifteen years. She brings a unique perspective to her research with a degree in anthropology, emphasizing linguistics and psychology, and graduate training in psychology with an emphasis on perception. She discovered how the ancient Egyptian decan zodiac truly worked and has published her findings in several scholarly journals. Ancient Egyptian Sky Lore: Rethinking the Conventional Wisdom is her first book.

Over the last 200 years, we’ve developed a rather elaborate vision of ancient Egypt, one that is mistakenly thought by many to be historically accurate and to have been determined by scientific investigation. But in reality, that vision is a jumble of some facts, some fantasies, and many wild guesses. Too many theories in Egyptology are defended because they are old and on the books, not because they are correct or defensible on logical grounds. This is especially true when it comes to the alleged astronomy of ancient Egypt. Various explanations have been offered to account for what has survived from ancient Egypt. But these explanations are so at odds with one another that the imagined culture makes little sense. The purpose of this website is to remedy this through the examination and study of the celestial in ancient Egypt.
